Ford Motor Company annouced on July 7, 2011 their intentions to hire/rehire some 1,800 assembly workers for its Louisville Assembly Plant (LAP) to build the all new Ford Escape.

Since the days of the Model T, Louisville and Detroit have had a very close connection, especially with Ford Motor Company. I know the people of Louisville and surrounding areas will work hard to make Ford proud that it builds three of it's best sellers right here in River City. Thank you Ford!

Not to mention all the indirect jobs those 1800 will create. I like the fact that the product is available as a hybrid, which should maintain strong sales no matter what gas prices do.

Default Moving to Louisville

Thanks! as Ford employees we are excited to get out of Michigan. We came from the south to Michigan due to Ford, now we get to go back (sorta). can you give us some tips on where to look? Want a southern feel, small town, some acreage, good schools, under 250,000. He's willing to commute around an hour, although obviously would rather be closer

There are all kinds of deals waiting for you like that in Oldham, Shelby, & Spencer Counties. If you are internet shopping, try 400xx zip codes. Nearly all will match your criteria. You can also look at 471xx for southern Indiana.

Best public schools are in Indiana and Oldham Co. KY. You'll find some good deals in Meade & Hardin County, KY too.

Acreage plus good schools, if you don't mind the drive to LAP, Meade Co, Spencer County, some parts of Oldham (Oldham is very close to the truck plant, but 25 minutes county line to LAP) Western Nelson County might be good too.

And Louisville is a much better place to own than to rent.

So go buy a house, dammit!! (Seriously, there are a ton of great deals out there for homes.)

Dont get too excited, as a former LAP employee, now a Chicago employee. its not a sure thing. the product has got to sell! Just cause they spent millions retooling the plant doesnt mean it will succeed.

That "cheaper to rent" graph is awesome. I would love to see more detailed data (more cities).

But yeah, very cool, maybe I can show it to potential buyers

I work for a sub-contractor to Ford and have been offered a job in Louisville. I came down from Michigan for a short visit over the weekend, and loved it. Louisville will be my new home at the end of the year. I'm looking forward to interacting on the boards and learning more about the city!
