I think David Jones has a great idea, and I'd like to expand on it. The Louisville Combined statistical area has a population of about 1.4 million people. I think they should start a fund drive and ask people to donate to a fund to get these bridges built. That could help significant cut the amount of funding that has to be gathered through loans, bond issues, and tolls, and it might also help cut the time required to get these darned bridges built. Any comments?

$10 million loan offered to start East End bridge | The Courier-Journal | courier-journal.com

Putting his money where his mouth is, Humana co-founder David A. Jones has offered to lend $10 million for the immediate construction of an East End bridge to offset the harm caused by the “catastrophic” closure of the Sherman Minton Bridge.

Jones says ‘that short-term funding provided by him and local banks and businesses could allow a six-lane eastern bridge to be built in less than two years.

“ ‘Sometimes it is not enough to do one’s best,’ ” Jones said in a letter to The Courier-Journal, quoting Winston Churchill. “ ‘Sometimes one must do what is required.’ Today it is required that our leaders deal with our emergency NOW,” Jones said. I heard about this on Fox's news tonight. Sounds good that someone is coming forth to help our city. Jones has done a lot for our city,so I hope the city will let it go thru. Well, look at Kentucky Kingdom here. They wouldn't let that go thru with the amount of money someone going to donate.

What do you think of my idea of starting a fund drive to help pay for the bridges?

Start the fund drive as soon as possible...and don't start building until enough money has been collected!

Yarmuth and Fischer, instead of dragging their feet on this, need to be saying "WE'LL GET IT DONE." We may not be able to start digging tomorrow, but we can start working towards it. They need to begin the push to split the bridges project so we can proceed with the East End bridge without worrying about how to pay for the downtown bridge and Spaghetti Junction.

We do need a two-bridge project right now, but the two that need to be built are the East End and Sherman Minton bridges.

Unfortunately, Yarmuth lives near the East End bridge's route and Greg Fischer is beholden to all the other rich folks in that neighborhood. So I'm not holding my breath.

Thank you Mr. Jones, I truly appreciate it. I can't contribute $10,000,000, but give me the depository and I'll throw all I can afford in, too!

I don't know. Seems like if we stand on the corners of the street like these different so called organizations who collect, maybe something would amount to it (pun intended). I don't contribute to those on the street corners who are collecting, but if there was a legit place who was starting up a "bridge fund", then I would consider it.

Well, I wasn't actually referring to standing on a street corner with a sign that says "if you donate, we will build it". I'm talking about a real fund raiser on a par with the Crusade for Children or something similar.
