My wife is a recently separated Air Force JAG who was recently extended a DoD position at Ft. Knox, and we will be moving to the area from Little Rock, Arkansas sometime in Mid-December, or Early January.

We plan to rent an apartment, and have set our budget for a monthly rent of $800.00.

She will be working at Ft. Knox, and I will be attending graduate school at UofL. We would like to find a decent apartment in the $800/month range in a location that puts us no more than 40 minutes in either direction to the Post, and the University.

No kids, so schools are not a concern.

The neighborhood isn't that important to us except for crime rates. I am currently a law enforcement officer, and would prefer not to live in a crime ridden area if possible.

I'd definitely look in SW Louisville, preferably right off the Gene Synder Fwy. A number of soldiers live in Fairdale off of gene Synder, while it ain't the flashiest section of town it is inexpensive with low crime and a good midpoint between Knox and UofL.

Alanboy did you well. I wouldn't have a lot of problem with Pleasure Ridge Park (PRP) either.

I used to live in an apt. called Glenmary Village apartments. BEST apartment in all of Louisville by my standards It was only about 3 miles off of the Gene Snyder hwy/Bardstown rd. exit. I lived there for 2 years and never head a peep out of local police. The apt/condos/townhouses are only about 5 years old so everything is still nice and new inside the units. The staff are friendly and the area is kept very clean.
