Very soon we shall have a merger of Jewish Hospital and U of L Hospital. The local media has covered much. Many are against it.
What are your thoughts?

All I will say is that with the merger complete, good competition wanes.

I've never seen a merger that results in less competition producing positive benefits for consumers and don't think this one is the exception!

Mergers "usually" result in fewer jobs.

overall, this merger will provide better quality of care for all of kentucky, especially rural kentucky, which has the worst health issues. not crazy about the catholic rules, but i'm trying to look at the greater good. jack conway doesn't give a crap about this other than getting his name on the news every night. btw, i'm a long time u of l hospital employee, and from what i hear, this is already a done deal.

as far as losing jobs goes, from my understanding jewish would be closing it's doors soon if not for this merger. although they have layed off a couple thousand in the last 18 months, they still employ a great number of kentuckians and this merger will save thousands of jobs at jewish healthcare.

i'm the least religion based person i know but this merger, even though not perfect, is definately a good thing for kentucky.

I hope you are correct. I'd be interested to hear from you about this ....in say 12 months.....to see if it transforms as you see it happening. I've been through more mergers/buyouts in the Telecom industry than I can count, and none of them saved/created more jobs. I can't recall any bank mergers that saved/created jobs.

sure, there will be some cuts, already have been. middle management is always in jeopardy during these things. so maybe we lose 100 -500 jobs short term, but in the long run, jewish stays open. would you still say we lost jobs? sure, but a greater crisis would be avoided.

What are your thoughts?
Nope!

Thank you Governor Beshear. The very notion that a hospital that serves the need of the public would be owned and controlled by an overseas religious organization is appalling. Thankfully this abomination won’t come to pass anytime soon.

Gov. Steve Beshear on Friday rejected a controversial merger that would have united three Kentucky hospital companies to create the state’s largest health care system.

“ After exhaustive discussions and research, I have determined that this proposed transaction is not in the best interest of the Commonwealth and therefore should not move forward,” he said in a statement. “In my opinion, the risks to the public outweigh the potential benefits.”
