We are traveling through the state of KY, and plan to stop to see the Louisville area. Is there somewhere that might offer some MILD WW rafting (Class II would be fine) or kayaking for a couple of senior citizens?

Really not a great deal of whitewater around the Louisville area. You will find mostly Class I streams around the region. For instance, Salt River in Bullitt county, Blue River in Milltown, IN, Floyds Fork in the eastern part of Louisville. Bear in mind that most of these streams, while listed as Class I, feature quite a bit of flatwater. If you want Class II to III, you will have to travel an hour or two outside the city. Gasper River in southern KY, Elkhorn Creek near Frankfort are good streams. Elkhorn has different trips depending on your skill level. One can take a 3 plus hour trip with mostly Class I to II. We've had a fairly dry summer and this part of the year is dry anyway, so this time of year isn't the best for paddling.
