Does there exist an apartment (1BR or studio) that is:

a) In Old Louisville
b) Under $450/month
c) Close (or close-ish) to laundry facilities
d) Allows small cage pets
and
e) Owned by an individual, not a corporation?

I'm a graduate student on a tight budget and all these things are important to me, for specific reasons. I've been searching for a few months but have come up empty...if an apartment that matches all these criteria doesn't exist, or if I'm being unreasonable in what I'm looking for, I will give up on or change one of the things, but I want to make sure first.

Thank you guys.

You can find it....but it wont be very nice, and it will be small, and probably not in the best part of Old Louisville. That price range gets into section 8 prices. That said, your best bet is to find a roommate. You do that, and you can get a heck of a palace for 900 with 2 bedrooms.

However, if you search craigslist hard enough, you will likely be able to find a decent enough studio for around 450.

I used the "map search function and this is one of the only ones that came up with a good location in your price range:

U of L - Old Louisville apartment

The outside of the building looks well kept. But the price and the lack of interior pics tells me that it is probably dated on the inside, but I could be wrong. Search craigslist daily by typing in the 450 max rent you are willing to pay, and use the new map function to find rentals in your range.

Good luck. Old Louisivlle is a wonderful and charming area.

Here is another well located one:

Old Louisville -1 Bedroom Apt across from Central Park

This one is a little more, but it is probably more updated than the others. It includes all utilities, so essentially it is a wash. Keep in mind these Old uildings have very high utility fees since they can get drafty in the winter, and very stuffy in the summer. It would be nice to know that my rent and all utilities would be 550 so I could budget accordingly. Just a thought:

Thank you very much. I actually work third shift and sometimes do doubles on one of my jobs (20-hour shifts) so my schedule precludes any normal roommate. I've tried that before, and it just doesn't work out because I need to be awake and stirring around during times that "normal" people don't.

I might be able to spend a little bit more money per month, but I want to keep it as low-cost as possible.

I had searched Craigslist a few times before I posted here, and I didn't find these. There's a lot to wade through there. Again, thank you!

You have to know how to wade through the spam on craigslist. Limit your search by typing your price range, and then "zoom in" on the area of the map you are looking at.
