Also, I just thought about it, but Richmond, IN has a few places you might be able to get into as a performer. It's a very small town right off I-70 at the Indiana/Ohio border but has a lot of jazz history. The first jazz recordings in the country were done there in addition to recordings by other large stars of the day. I don't know if you lean towards any blues with your jazz singing as well, but even if you don't you might look into the 4th floor blues club (4th Floor Blues Club). Good luck with everything. Sorry I can't be more help with the Louisville area on this one.

I've been a singer (although not jazz) in this town for twenty years and can tell you that you can make a living doing it here. Don't really know of a lot of jazz clubs, but we do have tons of nice restaurants that have live music several nights a week and I've heard several jazz performers playing around town. check out triangle talent in j-town. not a huge fan of paying 15% to a booking agent, but for a newcomer to the scene they might be a necessary evil. they also might be able to hook you up with other jazz musicians here. I have several friends that play five or six nights a week and earn a pretty good living doing it. PM me if you have any other questions and good luck.

This is probably one of the main jazz clubs right now:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jazzy...e/102029407122

It is located in the Glassworks Lofts building downtown. (cool blown glass studio).

There is live Jazz at several places each night in Louisville:

Louisville Jazz Society

The scene for fans is very passionate and growing. I would say the best live Jazz I have seen is typically enjoying a meal at Varanese or Theatre Square Marketplace.

Jack Fry's is an old school Louisville joint; it will remind you of something out of Chicago with a southern vibe, some of the best food you have ever had, and great live Jazz.

If you are in town June 30, I am guessing the Signature Jazz Ensemble at Clifton Center in the afternoon may be worth checking out.

Ok, this is no New Orleans. But, the foodie and growing food scene in Louisville is impressive, and since very few tourists know about the city yet (boy is that quickly changing with all Louisville's recent national press), your wait times, ease of travel, parks, and amenities are outstanding, especially inside the I-264 ring.

JazzJelly I think you'll find the musical atmosphere to be a positive one. Would love to chat with you more about your experiences in Richmond, VA, negative or positive.

Here is a list of local venues that I've been able to visit and I'm sure there are plenty I've missed. There is a ton of live music in the community here, I hope you find it as welcoming of a place as I have.

Hey CollabraMusic,
Thanks much for your info!
I actually have no experience with Richmond,VA. I am doing some detailed research on where I can create as many gigs as I can. Looking for great audiences, and happy Musicians.
I narrowed down my choices to Richmond, Pittsburgh, and Louisville as the places where the music's at.
I posted my question in Pittsburgh and people were friendly enough and gave me what they could answer wise. Posted my same question in Richmond, and as of today have 0 answers. Don't know if that means people don't know, not interested, or its so good that they want to keep the rest of us in the dark cos its soooo good! haha
I am so enjoying the open hearted and kind responses of the forum in Louisville that it would definitely be my first choice!
