hardly any snow and very humid with temps in the 90's most of the summer. While there isn't much snow, winters are still far from temperate. other than that I love Louisville but if the climate criteria is at the top of your list, it might not be the best fit for you.

Hi. We had some good friends from Wisconsin who just moved back in March. They lived here in Louisville for 3 years. I wanted to give you their perspective because they LOVED Wisconsin.

Things they liked:
- The community feel.
- Restaurants
- Coffee Shops
- Beautiful spring
- Arts community

Things they struggled with:
- Lack of water (they were from Sheboygan)
- Dirty winters (snow melts quickly, more rainy than snowy)
- Outdoor experiences
- Hot and sometimes long summers

I hope this helps! I personally love Louisville but my husband and I honeymooned in Door County, Wisconsin and it is indeed a beautiful state!

We all agree that there are some excellent schools at every level in Jefferson County. The number one rated school in Kentucky is Dupont Manual High School. One of the top elementary schools in the state is Greathouse-Shyrock, and there are others.

Here's the problem. All the top schools are filled by locals long before the end of the previous school year. If you are an immigrating family, even from another KY city or county, you will not have many options.

So, here's the facts: three of Kentucky's top rated high schools are in Jefferson County, five of Kentucky's cellar dwelling high schools are in (5 of the bottom 5) are in Jefferson County, the rest are no higher than mid-level.

If you are planning to move to Jefferson County, you must budget for private/parochial schools. You may get lucky and get one of the three great schools, or you may not. Just be prepared.
You mean you don't just automatically get into the public schools your neighborhood is assigned to? Is there open enrollment so anyone can go to whatever school they want?

No, the majority of the people get their assigned school based on their address. It just may not be in the neighborhood. There is also a very very competitive magnet program for the best schools.

This is a can of worms and there is a lot of false information on online forums. Your best bet? Go straight to the horse's mouth and contact JCPS.

Getting into good schools is very important to us. We currently live in ID and the educational system has been problematic here. We had come from MN where the schools were great. Entering schools in our part of ID was like going back a grade or two for our kids. After 2 years got the younger ones into a charter school that is finally up to speed for them. If we couldn't get into rigorous public schools in KY it would be a definite deal breaker. We wouldn't be able to afford private schools so good public schools are our only choice. We don't want another set back.

Maybe this deserves it's own thread. I don't mean to hijack the OP.

You can also look into Oldham County schools and suburban Floyd County IN schools. There are plenty of great schools in Louisville. We are talking a metro area of 1.5 million. Don't believe any heresay, just come see for yourself.

Haha, this just happens sometimes, it's alright. But it probably would get a better discussion going in its own thread with a suitable title.

I think it's funny that it showed up in my thread, simply due to the fact that my husband and I plan to not have any kids, so schools are the absolute furthest thing from my mind when thinking about moving. Lol.
