Hi,
We are thinking of moving to Louisville. We both love downtown living and have seen some condos in the 1300 s. 1st street area. Is it safe? Are there services? Thanks for any info

The northern areas of Old Louisville are a little dicey, maybe one murder a year and a few robberies; although it is heading in the right direction. Areas West of 2nd Street and South of Magnolia are generally safer.

There are some new condos next to U of L at 3rd and Eastern Pky that might be worth checking out The Reynolds Lofts - Features (broken link)

Its generally safe but can see a decent amount of car break ins especially. The incidence of violent crime in that area is not too high, but property crime can be moderate. Old Louisville is beautiful though, and I think the area bounded by 6th on the west, Hill on the north, 2nd street on the east, and UofL's campus on the south is the safest and nicest area, with St James Court being very upscale and the centerpiece of this beautiful neighborhood.
