Hello,

I grew up in Louisville but left after college to "discover" myself in Los Angeles. As fate would have it, I have just (on Xmas day) returned to my hometown to go to graduate school. I am looking for anyone in the local gay community who might point me toward leads on apartments, jobs, and to tell me about "gay life" in Louisville.

I am a writer/editor (had my own consulting practice in LA and might seek to build same here, but in interim, just looking for work to pay the bills while I finish my degree -- MFA, Creative Writing -- and my novel.

I am also a visual artist and would love to find a loft/living space in/near downtown Louisville.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Anywhere in Old Louisville or the Highlands should be fine for you.

I agree, but don't overlook the downtown area. It is really experiencing a Renaissance. There are several first-class condo developments going up in the downtown area.

G3 Illustrated" is an excellent Louisville gay and lesbian (but straight-friendly) publication . Looks like the web site is good, too. G3 is a free mag you see everywhere. The guys at Scout could probably give you info on life and housing downtown. There's a ton of stuff on the way.

I'm straight,by the way, but I want to make sure Louisville becomes even more diverse and open and interesting. It is definitely on its way.

There are lots of condos/lofts and apartments in the immdediate downtown and surrouding areas. There is 2.1 billion in development downtown alone with a 2 billion dollar medical research park planned on top of that:

The following blog lists some of the major developments downtown:

The largest gay concentration is in Old Louisville, where many gay couples have restored historic homes. The Highlands, specifically Cherokee Triangle, has long been home to many gays. Gays are also drawn to Clifton, Butchertown, Germantown, and Crescent Hill to some extent.

g3 magazine should help connect you to the gay community. I am straight, so I do not know much about gay nightlife other than that there are several nightclubs and gay businesses, and most are located in or near downtown.

The Connection - Louisville's Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Complex is a large gay megaclub located in east downtown and is probably the center of gay louisville. Also, many gay people have been moving into condos being built in the area nearby. I would try the above two websites to network with local gays and ask them questions as they will know the scene better than a straight guy. Good luck.

Here are some cool lofts readt for sale across from Connection:
