This past week, my wife and I spent time in Orlando, FL. We went without a plan other than to relax and be together. That plan worked very well. I wanted to go to Kennedy Space Center and got thoroughly hosed with the terrible admission & tour prices to see a very poor museum and even worse tour of abandoned steel and concrete lauch pads.

In return for such a terrible waste, she drug me to Epcot. Again, what a terrible waste of cash, except for the most inexpensive part of Disney, the monorail was free. I loved the mechanical and operational aspects of the monorail. It was a smooth ride, free from the swaying, bouncing, and other harshness of a great system such as the DC Metro.

What impressed me was the minimal space the system required! It could be installed with very little property acquisition. In the six car configuration, it carried 300 people, in Louisville terms, that's nearly 300 fewer parking spaces needed on a work day and 100 for a game or other event. Why can't and why won't a proven system such as Disney's monorail (first installed in 1959 in LA and still working) work for the Derby City? From UPS to Airport, to Freedom Hall, Papa Johns, Churchill Downs, through the economically needy west end to downtown and around. It just makes sense to a poor farm boy.
