Is there a problem in Louisville regarding flood plains - which actually I'm not really sure what that is but is this a concern when buying a house in the Louisville area.

Yeah, the most flood prone areas are around Okolona, Fairdale, & the Dixie Hwy corridor, especially near the canals. Of those, Okolona is the worst because it is at am even lower elevation than downtown, so during a major flood it would fill up like New Orlean's 9th Ward.

Anything east of Bardstown Rd is flood safe

I recommend that anyone looking to buy a home in Jefferson County look at LOJIC - Home Page. This wonderful mapping tool will identify flood plains, sewer service and many other useful points of reference.

As a Realtor and Auctioneer, I use the site nearly everyday. Oldham County would have a similar site (its coming) except for the detour the county took in common sense with the previous county judge-executive (CEO).
