I've been in Jacksonville Fl for 30 years. Grew up in lulvul. My Husband passed suddenly in 2013 and my Mother passed of old age in 2015. She's buried there along with my other relatives.

I don't want to move from Jacksonville, its my home for 30 years but I have no one here.

I need help finding a reasonably priced small place to call home. Furnished even out of town.

I'd like to visit a few months in the spring and fall and return to florida for the winters.

I have family in St. Louis I could see easier as well.

where do I start.

I'm retired I know what I want to do. I want to involve myself in Equine Therapy for children. I worked in nonprofits here, and I would love to work with horses and children. Louisville's not a bad place for that.

Welcome home...I'm probably biased but besides weather, Louisville is a nicer more cultured city than Jacksonville. The city has improved greatly.

Where do you want to live?

Sorry for your losses - my MIL is in the same boat down near West Palm, and all the hurricanes scare her, but apparently not enough to get her to move.

Unfortunately, most modest homes here are going for WAY over their true value in Louisville at the moment. I've worked with 3 different realtors looking for everything from condos to single family homes in the $175-$300k range, and anything that is barely above average is selling in less than a few days. Some houses never make it to zillow.com or the other MLS sites online. We've pretty much given up looking for a few years since we don't want to get stuck with a house that's underwater in a town that doesn't have a diverse upper tier employment base, especially in banking.

Peter - people don't move to Jax for the culture...lol...or anywhere in FL for that matter.

Rather than ask where you want to live, I'd ask what other activities and aspects of your life that you enjoy besides volunteering with children...which is an awesome endeavor, by the way.

My best guess honestly is that you might consider Lexington instead. I was only able to find one equine therapy for children organization in Louisville, but there are 3-4 in the central KY, northern KY area, including this one: www.ckrh.org/Mission.htm

Lexington is too small...

The OP may look
at Louisville 's Indiana suburbs. I cannot believe how nice New Albany is now. Dirt cheap too and safe
