Anchorage is in Jefferson county, but someone said that it has its own school district, is this true? Also, why is the Jefferson Public schools in court? And what will be affected when a decision is rendered?

Anchorage has a "K-8" independent school district. It is an extremely high quality school, if you can afford the property and/or the taxes that accompany this exclusive public school

JCPS was sued for having effectively an unfair racially selective student assignment plan. The parents won. Others on this forum can do a better job of explaining the exact positions of the plantifs vs. the school district.

The court effectively ruled that schools must be balanced without race being the primary student assignment factor. The school system was given until the 2009-10 school year to achieve reassignment. The dates may have changed as they were challenged by the plantiffs' attorney, but effectively, no parent really knows exactly where their child will attend school over the next couple of years unless they are already assigned to the competitive seats in a traditional school. So the ball is still bouncing.
