Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone on here can give me some advice. I have a 6 year old son with high functioning autism and a speech delay. He currently has an IEP, is in a mainstream class, and receives pullout services. He will be in the 1st grade in the fall. What JCPS elementaries do you recommend for special needs? I am searching for an apartment in a safe quiet area that is zoned to a good school. I am considering an apartment called The Lodges on South English Station Road. Its zoned to Tully Elementary and is close to a ABA/PT/OT/Speech therapy place in Jeffersontown. Can anyone tell me if this is a good school? Is Oldham county or JCPS for special needs is better? I am worried about bullying. When we lived in Florida he was bullied alot and the teacher never did anything.

JCPS uses a cluster system for school assignment, it is not as simple as saying “Oh, I live here so my child will go to X school.” It more like a child living here will end up in one of these 4-6 schools. Where you live is in Cluster 9, which includes Cochrane Elementary School, Hite Elementary School, Klondike Lane Elementary School, Price Elementary School, and Tully Elementary School. A child living in that cluster is eligible to attend any of the schools and they will generally allowed you to number your preferences in order and they will place your child in the highest school on the list that your child “fits” into - they have racial and income distribution goals, along with sibling priority placement. Your child, in particular, will be a little different because he has special needs that requires more accommodations than can be easily managed by just the classroom teacher, he will be placed where in the cluster they have the best services and resources to meet his specific needs. This is not a bad thing for your child.

Thank you for the reply. Is cluster 9 the best schools? Is there a specific area I should focus on? We will have to live in an apartment when we get there. I just want my son to be in the best school that will follow his IEP and really help him. I can't afford private school.

Hite & Tully have the best ratings & reputation for Elem.Schools out of the bunch. Although, I'm not sure about the Special Education side of things.
