I have an opportunity to advance my career by moving to Louisville area. My employer is in the west end, just off of 264. I am looking for an area within 30 mins of the west end that I can rent a small apartment ($900 a month or so) that is in a low crime area. South Indiana would be fine. Preferably a place with a full service fitness center nearby, but quiet, low crime, and easy commute are the priorities for me.

I've dealt with low-lives enough in my life and no longer care about the whys and hows they are so badly victimized in America. I don't care about if a neighborhood is "turning around" or becoming gentrified. I dont want anything to do with shiftless low-lives with sagging pants and greasy dread locks hanging around looking for trouble. I've lived in diverse areas my entire life and have never experienced the level of "attitude" I've seen over the past 5 years and anticipate that it will get worse in the coming years.

Anyway, an apartment complex in a somewhat rural area would be fine, tho I'd prefer suburban. Strong mobile phone service is important, as well as high speed internet access. Not too concerned about nightlife or trendy coffee shops.

Thanks in advance.

There's no such thing as a low crime area in the West End - that's the worst part of town by far. Southern Indiana (Floyd County) would be your best bet for an easy commute and safer area.

The good news is that most of the city is within 30 minutes of anywhere, so you basically could have your pick of places. Just not Oldham County, as that's probably too far.

There are apartments off Green Valley Rd in New Albany lower than that price point, it is a nice area overall.

Based on your wishes for quiet/subruban within 30 mins of west end etc. I'd also recommend around Floyds Knobs, IN. If you are from NYC, Louisville's urban options won't seem as diverse or as many "saggy pants" long hair. I sent you some urban options too to compare.

The nicest surbubs of Louisville by far are east of I-264, and north of I-64....problem with these areas are they are dense with bad traffic and will easily be 45 min commutes with traffic to certain deep parts of the west end. The benefit is you will avoid crossing the I-64 bridge from IN into KY which will be closing in big gaps for two years in 2021 for construction.

Keeping that in mind, I think you'd enjoy something within easy striking distance (20 mins no traffic) of downtown in the nice NE suburbs. I am thinking somewhere like Summit Place apartments would be nice. If you want to spend high dollar, you may look into the Veranda in Norton Commons.....that's a really neat lifestyle over there.

Unfortunatley the worst part of Louisville is the west end. It's actually not true the ENTIRE area is awful, but I wouldn't live out there. The area west of 9th street, north of 264 to the river has some very bad areas.

First off; dreadlocks aren't "greasy", second; the lowest crime areas are usually the rich areas, but if you can keep to yourself in some areas, and look like you don't have much, you'll be left alone. Honestly; whole lot of the city is practically ghetto and black "greasy" people are stretched across the city. The west end is known to be the bad part of the city, basically the most concentrated black area, other than portland which is mostly white ghetto people. Thirty minutes out on the expressway is practically anywhere in the city. Okolona, Newburg, Valley Station, PRP, Auburndale, Highlands and Cherokee Triangle. Where ever you end up, and especially where you work; I'd keep that near racist contempt to yourself. Never know who you'll be working with.

Internet in the west end that 's free is hard to come by. The signals in certain areas are terrible!
