I made a thread on here a while back about possibly attending UofL. Well its basically down to Louisville and the Dallas area in Texas (assuming I make it into the schools haha). Well please tell me about the music scene in Louisville as well as how it is for dating. I will be single, and 23 by the time I relocate, have heard WONDERFUL things about Louisville though.

Sorry nobody has responded here for you. Louisville has a fantastic music scene, both as a fan and an artist. We spawned bands like My morning Jacket, VHS or Beta, Slint, and loads of old punk rock bands. The great thing is, the scene is small, yet alive..so it's easy enough hanging out and meeting most of the musicians in town.

As far as being a fan, I write a music blog here in town called BackseatSandbar.com & here is a sampling of shows I've covered in Louisville this year alone:

Stars of the Lid - 4/24/2008
The Whigs - 4/23/2008
Iron & Wine - 4/20/2008
Sara Bareilles - 4/18/2008
Cabin - 4/18/2008
Kathleen Edwards - 4/17/2008
Galactic w/ Boots Riley - 4/15/2008
The Bravery - 4/13/2008
Dead Child - 4/11/2008
These United States / Vandaveer - 4/4/2008
Stars - 3/26/2008
Ferdinand Fox / Brian Scary - 3/22/2008
Pere Ubu - 3/22/2008
Man Man / The Extraordinaries - 3/20/2008
Built to Spill / Meat Puppets - 3/14/2008
Brett Dennen - 3/14/2008
The Photographic / Hotpipes - 3/8/2008
Black Mountain / Phantom Family Halo - 3/7/2008
Will Hoge, Dawn Landes, Jason Isbell - 2/29/2008
Over the Rhine / Ben Sollee - 2/23/2008
Wax Fang / Ultra Pulverize - 2/22/2008
Louisville is for Lovers - 2/15/2008
Ingrid Michaelson- 2/11/2008
Matthew Perryman Jones- 2/11/2008
Brigid Kaelin - 2/8/2008
Ben Sollee - 2/8/2008
Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - 2/1/2008

That's without mention how close Lexington, Cincinnati, Bloomington, Indianapolis and Nashville are...and the shows I've covered in those places. Also, that doesn't include all of the small talented acts that Louisville itself has to offer. We have loads of bands here with parties that are getting bigger and bigger, such as Fuzion bringing MisShapes and Le Castlevania this year, Forecastle Festival bringing Method Man, Tortoise, Snowden, Dr. Dog, Disco Biscuits and loads more. We've got Terrastock Festival bringing Marissa Nadler, Paik, Wooden Shjips, Oneida, Sapat, Grails, Motorpsycho, and loads more. We've got the Lebowski Fest and Abbey on the River. We've got tons of bands that play free at 4th Street Live including Violent Femmes, Goo Goo Dolls and too many others to recall off-hand.

We've got great venues too, including Headliners, 930 Art Center, KCA, and others.

You can check out the upcoming (and past) shows for the year HERE

You'll learn that people who like this city LOVE this city.

Thats good to know. I'm road managing for Antique Firearms this August and we will be arriving in Louisville, KY on Friday August 16th. Playing at Third Street Dive. We hope for a good crowd and want to reach out to as many people as possible to invite them to the show to party with us!

We're coming all the way from Asheville, NC and our tour goes on to NYC and then finally back home at the end of August.

My name is Mark Brown and I would do anything for these guys so message me on here or find the band on facebook and keep up with us, spread the word about the show and I look forward to meeting new friends and fans!!!
