I have a friend traveling to Louisville for a visit for the first time. They are asking me for restaurant suggestions because I am in LOU for work fairly regularly. I've been to a lot of great places in Louisville with coworkers and on my own, but I'm not at all an expert on the restaurants and half the time I forget the names lol. There are just so many. I did a google search and came up with this list from US News. I recognize some of the names, but don't know several. Was hoping to get a local take on good places. Do you agree with US News?

NuLu

Feast BBQ
La Bodeguita de Mima
Mayan Café

Downtown

Proof on Main
Lobby Bar and Grill at The Brown Hotel
Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse
Mussel & Burger Bar

Highlands

Jack Fry's
Taco Luchador Taqueria
Havana Rumba & Tapas Bar

I've been to La Bodequita de Mima and all of the ones in the Highlands. Enjoyed them all. I was suprised that Bar Vetti wasn't listed, nor was my favorite in Louisville, Dragon Kings Daughter.

Thoughts?

I am still learning the dining scene myself, but for new visitors they may enjoy the new rooftop bar at Hotel Genevieve. There's also this cool speak easy that you access through a non descript door in the souvenir shop. It's across the street from La Bodeguita, easy access if they are in NuLu

According to Trip Advisor the best restaurants in Louisville listed below. I don't agree with a lot of these listed so I'm assuming it's an algorithm based on reviews. Several of these restaurants are in tourist heavy locations so that makes sense. I'm sure most locals would dispute this list.

1 J. Grahams Cafe
2. Down One Bourbon
3. Jockey Silks
4. Mayan Cafe
5. English Grill
6. Havana Rumba Tapas Bar
7. Jeff Ruby's
8. Brown Hotel
9. Havana Rumba Middletown
10. Mussel&Burger Bar
11. Porch Kitchen & Bar
12. Wild Eggs
13. Jack Fry's
14. Mojito Tapas
15. Bucks Restaurant
16. Yummy Pollo
17. Mojito in Havannah
18. Hammerheads
19. Side Bar at Whiskey Row
20. Bungalow Joes

New ramen place to replace Wild Ginger sushi in the Highlands. I've seen them doing work on it over the last couple of weeks during my evening runs, I was wondering what they were doing. I love ramen, looking forward to checking this place out.

New Cuban restaurant downtown (4th St.) Not sure how it'll compare to my favorite (La Bodeguita).

New restaurant concept opening in the former Mellow Mushroom spot in the highlands. Not a lot of details yet, but definitely good to see this spot being reclaimed.
