Hi, my husband and I are seriously thinking of relocating to the Louisville area. We are going to be coming to town next weekend for 5 days. We are staying downtown. What recommendations do you have regarding where we should go, what we should see. We want to get a real 'taste' for what the city/area is about. We won't be moving downtown. Most likely Oldham county area. I have horses. We just thought it would be fun to stay downtown and walk to restaurants/bars. We can't do that where we live now.

The nicest areas of Downtown are the East Main/ Market Street area near Slugger Field, West Main's Museum Row, and 4th Street. River Road (east of Witherspoon Street) is awesome.

i'd for sure take a drive along River Road from downtown to Prospect. It is the only State Senic Road in Jefferson County (Correct me if im wrong) and you really get a feel for the architecture and scenery around the Louisville area, all while being next to the River for a lot of the drive.

Hmmmmm...Well we're about to move to L'ville (Oldham Co.) and personally I can't wait to take in Yew Dell Gardens
Yew Dell Gardens Home I'm also looking forward to a little "ride on the riverboat", which I understand leaves from downtown. The "River Road" (as someone suggested) is really beautiful and I would highly recommend the "Captain's Quarter" restaurant (just off the River Rd). The food is pretty darn good (try the Kentucky Hot Brown), the ambiance is very relaxed and it is right on the river. For a nice Saturday afternoon thing the area around Cheokee Park is wonderful. Lot's of neat old houses and nature galore. A bit out of town, another thing I'm looking forward to is a tour of one of the Bourbon distillaries. How can one come to KY and NOT want to check that out
Fact of the matter is you probably won't need to plan anything. Just do what we did, roll into town and start looking around. You'll find plenty to do and lots of wonderful people.

Hmmmmmmm...sounds like someone had a bad day. Doctor Steve says "take a couple of chill-pills and call us all back when you have something positive to add to the conversation".
Speaking as a soon to be residents of L'ville (Oldham County) my wife and I were in the unique position that we could relocate
anywhere we wanted to. After spending copious amounts of money traveling the country looking for our "place in the sun", we took the advice of Tom Cox and visited the area...The rest as they say is history. My point here is NOT to say that L'ville is for everyone but it does have
something for everyone (which is more than can be said for many places in the U.S. "heartland"). If someone hates L'ville (or anywhere else for that matter) that much, then one should strongly consider relocating. Relocation out of the question ?...Then make the most of what you have and start looking at the glass as "half full" as opposed to "half empty"....and now a word from our sponsors.

For breakfast I would recommend Toast on Market ([URL="http://www.toastonmarket.com/"]Toast On Market[/URL]) which also has a few nice little unique shops across the street. I would also recommend North End Cafe on Frankfort Ave. My out of town guest really seem to like both places. Hope you have a great visit.
