My apology if this was posted elsewhere.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors has awarded Louisville first place in its annual city livability competition. Louisville won in the large-city category, beating out such competitors as Las Vegas, Seattle and Orlando, Fla.

The livability awards are based largely on the work a city has done to improve its overall quality of life.

This year's applications were judged by a panel of urban government specialists, including mayors and former mayors.

Louisville has always done will in many quality of life assessments, so this doesn't surprise me. This once again goes to show that Louisville is the strong arm that pulls Kentucky forward!

More like the strong arm that drags the rest of Kentucky forward whether they like it or not!

(Yeah, yeah, I know that's too chauvinistic.)

Well, the way i see it is the rest of the state has it right and doesnt need to change Mostly anyway. But louisville does a good job of maintaining a good balance of safety/jobs, being clean.

Louisville's sense of community is almost none, thats depressing, but its gone on for so long here and in most cities its just been accepted as the way it is. Not to say there aren't plenty of dysfunctional small towns all over the state.......uh..you know what? im going to just agree with you.....But yeah the cities need major work also.

Those livability studies are kind of tricky. Usually it is a reward for cheapness which goes to place that are cheap because few want to live there (Buffalo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, etc)

Louisville seems to have a pretty good balance btw a decent economy and very affordable housing. You can get a 4 bedroom house in the East End for right around $100,000+. The metros I mentioned above are all losing population while Louisville's is growing at a decent rate
