I am going to be moving to Lville from ATL in the next 3 months. I have visited a few times for weddings and football games but I would consider myself unfamiliar with the city for the most part. Im single 26 and curious as to where I should live. I would like to be near the action, but I would also like to live in a nice area with some urban surroundings. I am planning on renting the first year and buying in 2009-2010. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all who reply.

Awesome. I love seeing transplants from larger cities. I think being as you are single and would like to be in the action, a downtown location wouldn't be out of the question. Many younger professionals are moving downtown, and with a thriving restaurant, nightlife, and entertainment scene downtown, most are enjoying it. Locations in the Highlands along Bardstown Road would be nice. It's a very liberal-minded, progressive area that is ideal and very urbanistic. Any areas to the immediate east of downtown would also be nice. Most of these areas are thriving.

I could have probably come up with a better response, but it's late and I know someone will come help me out, haha. Another positive is that most of these areas are withing walking distance to almost anything you'd need, so dependence on that car would be low!

Actually Old Louisville may be worth a look too. It is mostly college students and young professionals from what i've heard and the rents are a bargain.

Mc,

Where will you be working? That is what would influence my decision the most. It really doesn't take that long to get from one place to another here -- especially at night when I assume you'd want to take advantage of the social hot spots. I'm 31 and go down to Baxter Ave( a strip of about 10 bars) in the highlands a few times a month. It is only a 30 minute drive.
