I went with my wife and mother-in-law one year. They loved it -- me, not so much. But if you like arts-and-crafts, it's probably worth the trip.

Just curious about it, I saw a commercial and find it interesting they consider themselves Southern. I like Glendale and Berea myself but will be looking for other places here in Kentucky.

The place does seem "southern" in that its in an extensive forested hill country, a continuation of the Knobs country around Louisville, which makes it different from the surrounding Midwestern flatlands. Maybe more southern in scenery.is quaint (been there once). If you like Glendale you will like Nashville. Berea is a bit more, maybe more "artistic", less tourist, in its approach.

I spent a weekend in Brown County last year. If you like shopping for crafts, then it's the place for you. If not, then it's probably not worth the time. I didn't have a bad weekend there, but it definitely wasn't the trip of my life. If I were you, I'd drive up for a day and see if you like it before you book a room there -- it's really not a extraordinarly long drive. We arrived late on a Friday and left early Sunday because we just couldn't find anything else to do.

Brown County is more closer to Indianapolis Metro than Louisville. Its only about 40 miles from Indianapolis. Its ok if you are into arts, crafts, etc and small shopping and its a good day trip and scenic in the fall, summer, and spring but thats about all there is. Now Bloomington, IN a city of 75,000 about 15 miles to the West has a lot to do, good schools, jobs, and plenty of opportunity and not far from Indianapolis which overall is a much better city than Louisville both in culture, people, and economically. Central Indiana also has a greater deal of people less inclined to hillbilly type of behavior. Its more middle class than Louisville. Louisville is the dregs.
