Hi everyone, I've been reading these forums for about 2 months or so b/c I am getting ready to move to L'Ville at the end of August. I have a ton of questions but right now I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good bank. I'd like one that has the best checking account features.... like I can use any ATM card anywhere w/ no charge, no monthly fee, online bill-pay etc. Is anyone actually really happy with their bank?

Thanks!

Republic bank is a small to mid sized bank based in Louisville that has free checking and no ATM fees anywhere. I bank with one of the national giants (Chase) and I am not too happy with them. Maybe I will give Republic a try too. Also, Louisville has many "boutique" banks now, inlcuding a very nice one that just opened in St Matthews, but I cannot recall the name off hand.

I've never had any problems with National City. Find a branch that is close to you (any bank) walk in a few different times during the week and see how fast the line moves. Most of the banks all offer free checking, service and branch location is really all that they have to stand apart.

I'm hearing some odd rumors about National City lately. They are probably just that, but I would think twice about opening an account there or having all my money there.

National City will fail and possibly soon. It is unfortunate for many reasons most of all; it's the largest financial institution in Louisville. They would collapse quickly with an IndyMac style deposit run. Either way, don't have more than 100K in any one account and you'll be fine!
