Hello CityData folks,

I'm relocating from Seattle for a job in about a month and I'm trying to find the best part of Louisville to call home. I'm a recent college grad / young professional / 20-something, and I'm not having a ton of luck finding anything interesting on craigslist, apartments.com, etc.

Has anyone else had luck with other apartment sources? Or does anyone know of lofts/condos in the area that are renting?

Here are my ideal stats:

-An apartment/loft in the 800-1200 range
-Any commute length is fine (car!)
-I'd like a neighborhood that's fun, quirky, great places for food/coffee
-Tech-savvy (wifi!) locations a plus

I've heard a ton of great things about Louisville and was impressed when I visited, I just want to find the right part of it to live in!

Default Moving From Seattle

Relocating from Seattle, looking for a very safe, quiet and private home.
Preferably a ranch style, minimum of 1/2 acre. trees and maybe some hills around. love the country.

Wife and I are in our early 50's, active, professional.
Just the two of us, kids are grown.
Maybe a house 1,800 to 2,700 sq ft. but easy to maintain.
would like to have room for a RV in the future.
Price range would be from $175k to $500k but wish to keep it low, simple yet quality.
Very skilled and open minded on remodeling or building etc.

Hello, everyone.

My wife and I are going to be moving to Louisville from rural Kentucky next summer, and I would like some good resources for housing mostly, but also schools and neighborhoods.

We are 30's married with 1 daughter. 4 when we move.
We are both in college, me for my Bachelors/masters degree and my wife for her masters degree.
We'd like to stay around 800 or less per month for rent.
Going to send our daughter to public schools.
We are both going to be attending UofL so we would like something very near that. We have discovered Old Louisville neighborhood, and like that area, but also have gone east of campus and not really sure what that neighborhood is called. We don't want to have to drive to campus at all and plan to be involved in campus activities.

Any advice would be cool and welcomed. Thanks.

-Where you are working: My husband's company is in Louisville's East side
-How much you are willing to spend on housing:$350,000
-How long of a commute you're willing to tolerate: 30 min
-If you have kids: Private school or public school? 4 kids - public - great schhols are the top priority
-What type of neighborhood environment you are looking for: small town feeling? small city excitement? suburbia delight? - suburban but with a large yard. I don't want neighborhood kids cutting through my yard or showing up unvited. I love older houses with character. I'd like to be able to spend in the day in the city and retreat to the quiet of the suburbs at night.
-Community amenities important to you- schools, hospital, shopping. What NHL team do you cheer for? We're huge Bruins fans and we'd love to see them play in the area.
-Pie or cake?
Pie - no contest

We currently live in MA and there's a great possibility that we may head to Louisville! I'd love help narrowing down the community choices. Thank you!

Default New life

I am looking into new job opportunities. I am in the Telecommunications field and specialize in assisting companies that require assistance in building the operations and technical operations of the company. We are looking into several states and ran across an opportunity in Louisville, KY.

We originally came from NY. I worked in Manhattan for 20+ years and after surviving the WTC disaster we decided to try other parts of the country. We moved to MN and after six years I have completed my work here. It’s time to move on and start to feel alive again.

We have learned that we like to be within driving time of culture (a city) to enjoy restaurants, shows and the other amenities that a city has to offer. Need to have people around and not have the street roll up at nine at night. We have a 29’ boat so we prefer to be close to a major river, large lake or water way. My one child is graduating from college with a four year degree and my other child is getting ready to go to college next year for computer sciences and wants to go on for masters in software engineering. We have worked hard and now would like to have access to the better things in life.

I am from Louisville, but had a similar situation. I'd highly recommend checking out out the housing on upper Frankfort Avenue and Brownsboro Road / Clifton Heights. I recently moved to a one bedroom condo in the area and it has all the things you ask. There are quite a few coffee shops in the area, as well as a 24 hour diner on Brownsboro in Clifton. Java Bean on upper Frankfort always has hot artsy broads too, I must say.

Of course, just about anywhere in The Highlands has similar amenities, but I am biased. I've lived in both areas, but really feel like I could live here awhile (or until I get married and have a wife breed kids). There are a few new loft / condo complexes in the area as well.

I can't think of the building names offhand, give me a day or two so I can pay attention when I pass them and I'll post them up.
