Hi,

Me, my husband and family are moving to Asheville NC for the year. All of our family is back in Illinois. I'm looking for a half-way meeting point where they'll only have to drive about 4-5 hours to get together. I think that makes it Louiville or thereabouts.

Are there any lakes around Louiville or other scenic neat places that would be good for family get togethers. We like little towns with antique and novelty shops, little grocery stores, and restuarants.

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks!

Taylorsville Lake is nice. Located in Spencer County, southeast of Louisville.

Downtown Taylorsville is a growing town, but im not sure you will find many antique or novelty shops there.

Hope this helps.

Taylorsville Lake is nice. Lake Cumberland is also nice, although they are currently having issues. And it's a lot closer for them but further for you.

Rough River, maybe? Land Between the Lakes is more out of the way but gorgeous -- near Murray in southwest Kentucky.

I think it would depend on where your family lives in Illinois. Upstate or below Springfield? Land between the Lakes is not a bad drive from either NC or IL. From NC, I-40 to I-24 at Nashville and you are there. From Chicago or Eastern IL, I-57 to I-24 at Mt. Vernon and one hour.

I wouldn't rule out Patoka Lake, IN. It is near Jasper, Corydon, and many other neat little burgs.
