Hi all,
This is my first post here. I got pulled over for speeding in a school zone (42 on a 25)...... I am basically very new to this place.... I moved in a month back.... I just rented a car and I was trying to find my way accross the town in the traffic to my office. I have been summoned to the court..... this is the first time for me....... I want some advice as to what to say and how to say it. I hope to minimize any point deductions, minimize the fine I need to pay ( as I am a student). Thanks in addvance.

Don't pay the ticket, but go to court, appeal to the mercy of the court with the explanation you just made. I haven't been in several years, but last I had a ticket there was a public defender there to guide you so that you won't be railroaded.

If you pay the ticket, for sure you'll loose. If you go to court, you may loose and pay more, or you might get a slap on the wrist. If you do go to court, honor the court by being "business" dressed. Wear a nice pair of slacks, socks, polished shoes, and a plain dress shirt. Conform to the system... they get too many non-conformists and they get no breaks..

Good advice Tom, although things may have changed. It may be worth a try if he has all that time. A well dressed man will be a shock in that court with all the people dressed in street and thug clothes. Many people are also disrespectful to the judge, especially young people. Also, he may inquire with the ticket/people at court about doing a driving class that will save him from losing points off his insurance. A 100 dollar ticket is not a huge deal, but a raise of 500 dollars on an annual insurance premium is.

You have to go in front of the judge if your caught in a school zone. Go explain yourself or take a lawyer. It'll get dropped to defective equipment and you can elect for traffic school! I just got done getting traffic school for about the same exact offense.

I have to agree with Tom and STX... whatever you do maintain absolute respect and no bad excuses either. "yes/No sir/ma'am" is always welcome (well, almost always )
