I just got back from Kentucky. This will be a full report on my observations.

Elizabethtown- Very impressed. Very clean, safe. It is REALLY easy to get around. Had a nice small military town feeling. VERY nice folks. Good mix of cultures.

Radcliff- Most of it is clean but a noticeable population of run-down buildings. Nice mix of cultures. Pretty safe from what i've gathered.

Vine Grove- Not very impressed. Lots of old run down buildings. Just looks old and somewhat neglected to me. Didnt hear about much crime.

Meade County- Very nice folks. Looked okay. Loved Otter Creek with the view of the Ohio River. Probably too rural for my juices.

Bullitt County- The area i was LEAST impressed with. Folks seemed kinda cold and not geniune. Outside of the golf course subdivision I went to, i did not see anything else to make me want to move there. Plus with all the racism and drug rumors with Bullitt Co I'll pass.

Nelson Co/Bardstown- Very nice folks. Bardstown reminded me of a more friendly Old Town Alexandria. Probably too far from everything for me.

Louisville- I saved the best for last. I w- anted to be fair due to the storm damage and power situation. I was EXTREMELY impressed. I saw St. Matthews/Highlands. I cant tell you how impressed i was. I also saw the River Front, Downtown (ate @ 4th St live), and Old Louisville. BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!! The folks were very nice and friendly. One thing i did not like was how shady S 4th St looked as i got closer to Central Ave and Churchhill Downs, i know i had to have left Old Louisville and went into one of the "no-no" areas. Would loved to have checked out Valley Station/Pleasure Ridge Park but time didnt allow. But still I LOVED Louisville.

Overall,

- Very friendly folks.
- Easy to get around.
- very clean.
- Folks really seemed to value church and family and roots.
- felt safe in nearly every area i went to.

but i got unpleasant news. There is a good possibilty my move to KY may not happen until 2010. I'll just put it in God's hands and i have faith i'll be a Kentuckian in perfect time.

Thank you Kentucky for showing me a great time!!!

Very encouraged with this feedback as someone like me who's living a MI nightmare dreaming of KY/TN. A great, thorough report on the area, nice job. And when stx12499 validates it, well you just gotta believe. I, like Alanboy395, have put it in God's hands because things have to happen here before things can get goin' there.

That's awesome. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I'm from the PRP area and I know it was one of the hardest hit areas. So it might not have been very impressive yet! haha.

Your observations seem spot on with mine.

The sad thing about S 4th Street is one of Louisville's most prominent councilman (Tom Owens) owns that ugly green building btw U of L and Winkler and REFUSES to spend a dime to improve the building. He even kept a plasma donation center from moving across the street (in a building that used to be a strip club). TO is someone who talks about the need for improvement in urban neighborhoods yet refuses to do so himself.

I'm sure you'll be here when you're meant to be here. We look forward to having you!

So you can't move until you sell your house in Michigan? You have the patience of a monk! Good luck and maybe this latest bailout will help buy your house so you can move south before the year 2012.

Default Almost on our way

Thanks for that info. You have been VERY helpful. It looks like Elizabethtown is the right spot for this military couple!
