Do any of you know of a nursing home cares for alzheimer's patients and allows a fit spouse to live there? My grandma has alzheimer's pretty bad and is in a rehab facility for a fractured hip. Grandpa is healthy. They have been married 62 years and it is breaking his heart that she is there are he is alone (dang it, there I go crying again). It is also soo hard to leave her knowing she will be alone too. Anybody know of anything I can do?

MMof3,

My grandma has Alzheimers as well. She's at a place out on Manslick, I think, but I can't recall the name of it. I will get onto my Aunt about it and report back. I don't know if they allow a fit spouse to be there as well--the home has several levels of care though, and we have all been just so pleased with the staff and the care that Grandma gets there.

I'm sorry to hear that it gets you so upset; I know, it's hard! hang in there!

Hey Missy,

I just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about getting you the info on that facility my Grandma is in, but I just haven't heard back from my Aunt.

I'll keep trying to find out, and will let you know as soon as I learn something!

Cheers!

Hi Missy--glad to hear that you have found a facility for your Grandma. I still haven't heard back from my aunt (I don't know WHAT she's doing, but she's not checking her emails!) but I've done a search, and I think it might be Wesley Manor--near East Manslick and Preston--that my grandma is in. I could be completely wrong about the name, but that is where it's at.

Georgetown Manor--that was an option we didn't pursue after hearing one horror story after the other. We didn't even go and check it out; the personal accounts were enough to sway us!
