i think looking at statistics is a much better way to determine what school district is this and what school district is that as opposed to word of mouth. just my opinion though.

Both Crestwood and Pewee Valley would be excellent options.

Finding housing in the budget in Anchorage could prove to be difficult.

Agree, but you shouldn't bypass the chance to talk to parents and teachers at various schools to get a personal idea. Never judge a book by it's cover! I have friends that have wound up taking their kids out of a reportedly AWESOME traditional school because their kids were miserable and enrolling them in the local public school, and the kids absolutely thrived! They wished they hadn't wasted the first 3 and 2 years (respectively) of their kids primary education based on stats and 'shiny things'.

And anyway, regardless of where they go to school, whether it's the most expensive and elite private school, or the shoddiest of public schools, (for older kids meaning late middle school-high school aged), they're only going to get out as much as they put in combined with their parents interest and involvement.

people place too much responsibility on the teachers now days, but if a student is lazy or non-receptive to teaching it won't matter how good the teachers are; I believe it begins at home.

One of the newest schools in Jefferson County is Stouffer Elementary...you may want to get additional info on that one....and there should be rental homes available in the area that feeds into that school
