You'll need to rent a car. Best value... 75-90 miles from Louisville Airport to Lexington (depending on where you are going in Lexington) UK is centrally located inside New Circle Road.

Are you looking for public transit? It's a little more difficult, but it can be done. Let me know and I will guide you.

Its tough in Lexington, but a bit easier in Louisville. Go to the information booth in Louisville's airport by baggage claim and ask for a TARC schedule. I believe it is bus 2 that comes to the airport and will take you downtown, to around 5th and Muhammad Ali. From there, you may walk two blocks west to 7th and Muhammad Ali to the Greyhoud station. The Greyhound bus will take you to Lexington, but I am not sure of prices or where you would get dropped in Lexington. I would google the websites for Tarc and Greyhound to plan your trip.

Also of note, while downtown Louisville is VERY safe during the day, the Greyhound station and the west end of downtown does attract some shady characters and some vagrants, especially late at night on weekdays. So, just be smart and pretend you are in the worst part of Bombay or any major Indian city in a less than desirable area.

Default bus route

Good news is that a Greyhound runs from $16 to $29 - depending on how far in advance you make the reservation. The bad news is that it'll take between 4 and 5 hours to make the trip. Buses run twice a day.

I was too lazy to look at the greyhound site...but are you sure? I was thinking maybe 2 hours max to Lexington by Greyhound. What does the thing stop in Cincy on the way or something?

Its about an hour to two hours by bus to/from Lexington. The bus doesnt take the interestate but follows US 60 to pick up passengers.

He is probably talking about the wait for the bus, depending on when the traveller arrived in Louisville.

Unlike Louisville it appears the Greyhound station is on New Circle Road in Lexington, out in the suburbs, well away from UK. It could be difficult getting from the station to downtown, which is in walking distance from UK (but still tough due to carrying luggage).

The Greyhound site says the route is 194 miles and 6 hours. It must go to Cincy. I've never seen a bus on or off I-64 between Lex-Lou. It was for this reason, I said originally that a rental car is best.
