Hello,
I am moving to Louisville and do not know anything about the area other than there is an Orthodox shul there (Chabad). That is the main reason I am moving there. Is there anyone here who is Jewish and can give info on the community there? If you do not want to post here, please contact me by email. I would like to get to know the Jewish community better before I jump in the water. Thank you
ilana

I'm not Jewish, but I like to search for info. There is a website, http://www.jewishlouisville.org/ maybe it would be of help? Good luck!

I am checking that website. I have an address for the shul. This is the area where I need to find an apt or even a room for rent.
3700 Dutchmans Lane
Louisville, Kentucky 40205

Can you tell me anything about the area, i.e. rent availability, cost of living, transportation, jobs and shopping . I am trying to find clasified adds to search from news in the area. Thank you for your assistance.
I am 59 year old female who is retired police officer. Looking for any type of work to suppliment retirement there.

I'm sorry Ilana, I can't help with anything else. I don't even live in KY. It might be a good idea to start a different thread dealing with all those other issues. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people around these boards.

The area is known as St. Matthews, and it is a very upscale area close to several hospitals, schools, and tons of shopping including two malls. There is bus service in the area but not as good as downtown. Louisville has a great and healthy job market, so just search. Louisville has a low cost of living and you should be able to find a nice 1 BR for under 600/mo in that area. You may want to enlist a talent agency to place you with a job. Many places hire retirees part time.

If you are Jewish, that area is the center of the local Jewish community and close to the Jewish Community Center, where you could meet friends. Louisville has a decent Jewish population for a southern city, between 10,000 and 20,000. There are about a half dozen synagogues. The main religions in Louisville are Catholic and Baptist by far, though.
