Hi there! I have been busy calling around about installing a home security system and was wondering if there are any companies that any of you would recommend? We are hoping for one that will be affordable to set up as well as monthly fees that are not too high. (ADT has been ruled out!) We do not have a land line and would need a cellular backup.

ADT here too. You would be wise to get a land line. ADT smoke/fire detectors are tied into the fire department and, should you have a fire while you are away or even a fire that you cannot easily detect (like an attic fire), the fire department will immediately be notified. You should also save on your homeowners.

There are some systems that have a cell-contact method but off the top of my head, I can't name any and don't have exerperience with any of them.

Derby City is $15 a month for monitoring and I've been please with them from the beginning. You'll have to pay for installation but with the average home insurance discount, $15 a month is a bargain with a company (502-364-8879) that has been realible and effective at providing coverage.

Thank you for the recommendations and I hope to see some more! My issue with ADT was that I felt that $50 p/mo was high and quite frankly, I hated the salesman. I did call Derby City and they interested me as well as a couple of others. I guess I was caught off gaurd a little by prices. Most od my friends pay about 15-20 p/mo but free or low installation while I am getting quoted a few hundred for installation and most are 40 or more p/month. It looks like Ill just have to cave and bust out the checkbook!

I've been pretty happy with ADT. It came with the house when it was built so we just signed up for service with them to make things easier. The only thing is, and this has never happened to me, but I guess it automatically calls the fire department if the smoke detectors go off in your house and I see why its a good thing, but no joke my friend has a tendency to burn things in the oven and one month the fire dept. came 3 times. lol.

ADT customer and not happy at all. Too expensive and too impersonal. My wife once set the alarm off by accident and we never even got a check-up call.

The only reason I haven't switched is inertia.
