Hello, I'm currently an EMT, planning on moving to Louisville in a little under a month. Who has the 911 contact in this county and surrounding counties? Is there a lot of competition for jobs as EMT's there? I'm coming from California and it was nearly impossible to get a job with a company that had a 911 contract. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Lightbulb links

Louisville Fire has the city and Rural Metro has the outlying areas that aren't covered by the county services. Louisville merged the ambulance and fire departments a few years ago.

Here is the Metro website: RuralMetro.com Over 50 Years of Serving Others (http://ruralmetro.com/index.asp - broken link)

And Louisville's link: Become A Firefighter - I Want To - LouisvilleKy.gov

Does Louisville Metro ( EMS Home Page - EMS - LouisvilleKy.gov ) not cover the metro area of Louisville? When I called and talked to them, they said they had the 911 contract. I'm confused!

Apparently the Louisville EMS does have the 'contract' but it's a city department. http://www.louisvilleky.gov/NR/rdonl...rocess2009.pdf

Rural does have the job outside of Louisville but there are areas that Rural operates in - nothing in Louisville is finite and concrete. There are lots of smaller cities within the county who have their own police, fire, and even EMS departments.
