I keep hearing conflicting information about whether or not JCPS is actually hiring for the 2010-11 school-year. I know that their website says that they have around 150 anticipated elementary teacher openings, but does this hiring actually happen, or are they just keeping their lines in the water just in case. Does anyone know if/when JCPS begins it's outside hiring & interview process? On a side note, a lot of school districts around the country are laying off teachers, or have hiring freezes. What makes JCPS different in this aspect? I have 5 years of teaching experience in North Carolina & would really like to make the move up to Louisville! Any information anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated!

One of the best things about teaching through JCPS is that you dont see all these layoffs and such that everywhere else is having. If you teach in JCPS and your school closes, you are guaranteed a position at the same pay somewhere in the district. By having so many schools, you can easily transfer to different schools and "move up the chain" to better schools over time as well. Its nice to be able to have that confidence in a teaching position. The interviewing process should be starting anytime now.
