Of course as a incoming freshman I have to live in Texas Tech's dorms, but when those dorms are closed, I need a backup place! Thing is, my family doesn't live in Texas where I can simply drive over. Matter of fact, they're not in the whole USA!

I'm hopefully arriving August 4th in LBB (the airport) and I have my orientation the next day. Okay, where in the world will I stay that night? Are there any *really* cheap places to stay? My dad lost his job and we are low on cash. Also, I don't know where the heck I will be staying between August 7th and August 27th (between orientation and the first day of classes).

Know of any cheap places/hostels in Lubbock? Thanks.

There are a couple of extended stay hotels around town where you can get a room for $180 per week or so. It might also be well worth a call to the Tech housing department. They would probably be very accommodating or have good advice for someone in your situation. I don't know how it works at Tech, but many universities have an orientation session specifically for international students, and it's held very close to the dorm move-in date for this reason. If it's not too late, you might want to see if Tech has this option and maybe switch your flight date.

If worse comes to worse, you could always couch surf for those three weeks. CouchSurfing – The world’s largest travel community

Heck, you might even contact the rotary club and see if there would be any hosts for three weeks.

Also, I should say feel free to DM me since I'll be in and out of town during August.

This couchsurfing thing seems really fun! I'm not going to have to do it though because my dad changed my booking to August 21st. I don't know what I'll do when the dorms close on December 13 though... I actually did call the housing department at TTU and they said they will give out a few organizations names and churches and whatnot and they might be able to help.

And yup you guessed it, they changed my orientation to the international orientation dates. Hey you're gonna be in Lubbock? When are you leaving?

Glad to see things are working out. And as for when I'll be in town, that's a good question haha. I'm not exactly sure myself since I have several plans.
