Hello,

I know there may be similar past topics (I will be reading those as well). But I am still interested if there is any new information and/or recommendations specific to me.

I may begin this semester at Texas Tech as a transfer student. I am 24, single, and do not have a car (and I will not be getting one). I am looking for apartments with the following (not necessarily ordered by importance, and not necessarily all required):
1) Safe.
2) Easy access as possible to Texas Tech - walking and/or public transportation.
3) Utilizes water softener systems - I am sensitive to hard water and I assume Lubbock might have hard water.
4) High speed non-wireless internet (whether it is default access or just serviceable by the local ISPs).
5) Easy access as possible to any necessities (groceries, supplies, etc...) - walking and/or public transportation.
6) In an apartment complex and/or neighborhood dominantly of other young (30s or younger), single students and/or working professionals.
7) Affordable (but don't hesitate to recommend apartments that may not be affordable, I just want to see all options). I may or may not live with roommate(s), preferably not though. Private bedrooms are a necessity though.
8) Included non-luxury amneities (included washer/dryer or public laundry, pre-furnished (basic) units, private or public kitchens, etc...)

If there is anything else you think I am forgetting (lol), feel free to chime in.

This was somewhat unplanned so unfortunately I do not have a LOT of time to find one. But I will continue to research/shop, and I will appreciate any information or suggestions.

Thank You!

Hi UrbanSeeker! I just went through an apartment search in Lubbock. While I was looking for a place on the margins, I do know that there are a bunch of apartments right next to the TTU campus. Check out Apartments in Lubbock, TX - LubbockApartments.com, which is super useful for finding places all over the city. Best of luck!

You're a little late to the game, but you might be able to get what you want still. The only places that'll fit your location and demographic criteria are Tech Terrace and Overton Park. South Overton should also work as long as you don't mind walking/biking several blocks to Leonard's or Wal-Mart for groceries. In addition to apartments, look into backhouses. They have the conveniences of both a single family home and a studio apartment, and they're usually very affordable. Public transportation is not all that great, so you'll have to make a point to get outside of these neighborhoods, but it's possible to go carless here. The water is very hard there, and the water softener requirement will probably be your biggest hangup. Good luck!

You might consider housing designed for students. A little pricey but in a large community like this, you shouldn't have a problem catching a ride sometimes as I'm sure you will have roommates and make new friends. I know that there are shuttles that serve them. Here is one I'd recommend that I know about personally:

The Republic at Lubbock

Thanks for the responses guys. I have been researching a lot over the last couple of days. As usual, the apartment rating sites all have lots of bad reviews for just about everywhere lol. Anyone know anything about any specific student-oriented places besides The Republic (I am considered it, I just like to look at all options)?
