I'm pretty sure it's done adding height. It looks nice enough. I just wish they would have built it downtown to add to the "skyline" that hasn't been added to since the 60's.

Ya maybe when they redo downtown they might add some new tall buildings. If Lubbock could find a way to keep the graduates from TTU then they could build cool apartment buildings and tall buildings for offices for them to live and work in.

It's supposed to open in July. There was a good article about it in this morning's newspaper. I think the location is ideal. It was built primarily to address events related to Texas Tech, including academic conferences and football game lodging. Also, Tech's RHIM group is going to be helping to run the hotel.

First they have to find a way to fill the existing empty class A office space downtown before they begin to even THINK about building new highrises. And that is a long, long, LONG way off, even considering the moderate change is Lubbock's growth rate in recent years. Same thing with downtown condo towers - they have to find a way to lure a LOT more people downtown. Look at how much trouble McDougal and co. is having converting the old Pioneer Hotel into condos - they've been working on that thing for over 3 years!

The whole reason for the downtown revitalization is to draw people downtown. I recently read a report about the revitalization that stated that they were planning on adding office space to downtown to draw in business and regenerate interest in the currently vacant space. In addition, some vacant office space is being planned to be converted to retail. The Pioneer Hotel has not been worked on lately because McDougal is working on finishing up Overton Park, and they will restart work once the revitalization is begun.

overton park is downtown. look at the bricked streets they go from i27 all the way up university. people dont understand how massive lubbock truly is & how large the downtown area is. i agree with maintaining the tech grads.
