So here's my situation: I already have an OB-GYN here in Lubbock, but feel that she does not take my concerns seriously. She also made me feel VERY uncomfortable at my last visit when she said that my method of contraception is "okay" and here is her reasoning: "If an accident were to happen and you became pregnant, that's okay. You're married and have a stable job, so that's better than if you were, say, a teenager." This gave me a very weird vibe, and given that I have always expressed to her (and had said again only moments before her comment) that I do not want to have children within the next 5 years, possibly not ever, I thought that comment was inappropriate and worrying. In a previous visit she categorically dismissed my concerns about hormonal birth control and my concerns that I may have PCOS (which I brought up because I have symptoms and both my mother and sister have PCOS) without ever running a saliva or blood test. In a visit before that, she quoted incorrect statistics about the effectiveness of various methods of birth control and heavily pushed me to use the Pill even after I told her the side effects I experienced when I was previously on the Pill were too severe to be a reasonable option. I don't feel that she has my best interests in mind and I don't like that I am not being heard.

TL;DR Can anyone suggest a good female OB-GYN here in Lubbock? I would really like a doctor who takes patient concerns seriously, presents all options and actively involves the patient in selecting the best choice for them, and (this is the biggest thing, and tends to go along with the above) pro-choice, understanding and providing information about ALL options available in the case of pregnancy.

I have been seeing Dr. Michelle Sahinler at Grace Clinic in Lubbock and have been very pleased with her. She practices gynecology only, no obstetrics. I don't know about the pro-choice issue. I figure that should not be an issue so long as you have a good gyno, as they can help ensure you never get pregnant in the first place Good luck to you!

Thanks rr2005, I'll look into Dr. Sahinler. I did want to note that even the best gyno can't 100% prevent you from getting pregnant, and even the best birth control methods can fail. The pro-choice issue, for me, is knowing that my doctor will not withhold information about my options because they don't personally agree with it. My current doctor makes me super uncomfortable because I told her I absolutely do not want to get pregnant right now, and she acted like it wouldn't be a big deal and I could handle it if an accident happened. I want a doctor who would take me seriously and, for instance, say that if a pregnancy were to happen, my options are ___, ___, and ___, but they understand that I don't want to be pregnant and will work with me to make sure that doesn't happen in the first place.

A doctor acting like it's not a big deal to be pregnant would make me VERY uncomfortable as well. It's a huge deal for anyone and you need a doctor who is not so cavalier about the issue!

We had recent experience with Dr. Hook at Grace Clinic. I cannot recommend her. We had a very negative experience, and it involved several events.
