You've probably heard some rumors, but let me tell y'all what's happening in Northwest Lubbock. Word from TXDOT is, there are at least two major upgrade projects along U.S. Highway 84 (Clovis Highway) that suggest that the route will be gradually converted from at-grade, divided, full-access highway to a full, limited-access freeway outside of Loop 289. If that holds true, then that's exciting news for the entire region. What's happening is, there are currently two places along U.S. 84 that will see new grade-separated interchanges so traffic on Clovis Hwy can keep moving: Frankford and Milwaukee. No word yet on Slide, Ursuline, Bluefield, and Quaker or a potential direct-connect with 289, but you can bet those will be in line for something in the future.

In my opinion, it is long overdue and was needed about twenty years ago, but it's nonetheless coming now. This thread will be entirely about the projects associated with this stretch of U.S. 84 in Northwest Lubbock and about the road and adjoining side streets only (future mainlanes and feeder roads). Please try to avoid discussing the surrounding building development; there's another thread for that already.

That said, thoughts?

You'd like for it to connect with the Marsha Sharp Freeway at some point in time (maybe at Ave. Q), I'd think. That would be another three miles or so.

Wishful thinking. It's not expected to go into the city. The work that's being done will be on the existing divided stretch outside the Loop.

I'm thinking eventually. Maybe not in the next five years or longer than that, but long-term.

This story is mainly about the proposed outer loop, but there are two paragraphs devoted to 84:

^^^ A potential interchange at Highway 84 is possibly years away, but I'd love to see it happen.
