Is there anyone on the forum who may have known Buddy Holly or can shed any interesting facts about he and his family who, I believe, resided in Lubbock?

I had a friend whose grandmother who went to school with Buddy Holly. She said that he was somewhat full of himself and a jerk because of it, like he knew he was going to make it big. I'm sure stories like that abound with most celebrities, though, so that should probably be taken with a grain of salt.

I think a family member had a tile company on 4th street in Lubbock for years.

I believe that was Larry Holley, older brother to Buddy, who owned the tile company.

Also Waylon Jennings, one of Holly's Crickets, still has a brother living at Littlefield, Texas.

I recently lost a guitar jam buddy who used to play with Tinker Carlen many years ago. Someone just told me Tinker died very recently but I haven't been able to find anything on the story. Has anyone else heard this?

Tinker Carlen was a supposed "original Cricket."

I was only ten years old in 1959 and living completely across Texas from Lubbock, but the one thing I find very admirable about Buddy Holly was that, unlike many of the more prominent Lubbock area musicians I and others have listed at my thread called //www.city-data.com/forum/lubbo...t-present.html, Buddy was never at odds with his hometown of Lubbock. Possibly he was too young when he died to have arrived at such a point but, in my opinion, Lubbock could not have picked a better emissary for its musical arts.
