Apparently construction should start early next year and be finished by 2023. Womble’s $20M gift is the largest in Tech Athletics history, and it’s his second such donation after leading off his namesake Basketball Center with $10M.
Less than two months later, Cody Campbell gave a press conference Thursday to talk about another, $25M gift, this time to Jones Stadium (should say Jones AT&T Stadium and Cody Campbell Field).

No drawings yet, but the south end zone is the last portion that hasn’t seen much improvement this century. The project likely won’t start until 2023, but it’s the final major expenditure of the Fearless Champions campaign. They haven’t mentioned an amount, but previous estimates have put it at $50-$60 million.

Additionally, workers should start a $14.5 million baseball clubhouse expansion in a matter of weeks.

2021 has been a great year for Lubbock. Lots of promise still ahead.

^Good video.

On another note, I don’t want to focus solely on Tech, but it seems like the university may be making up for lost time. The leadership has announced another construction project, this time for an Academic Sciences building. I think it will have the highest price tag of any single on-campus building project in recent years, at $100 million:

https://today.ttu.edu/posts/2021/12/...ences-Building

It has been in the planning stages for a while. The location is very central, close to some early 20th century buildings and the memorial circle.

Default No Waffle House? And Expo Center News

Has anybody noticed that there is no Waffle House in Lubbock??

That's right. The franchise has yet to actually have a location in the Hub City. They've got a few in Amarillo, but none yet in Lubbock. Somebody has to possibly see that and will stand up and lobby to change that.

On the other side, I'm getting word that the proposed Expo Center slated for the north side may be back on this next year.

Default Allsup's Coming In

Here's a big surprise: Allsup's convenience stores are going to be making inroads inside the city of Lubbock. Well, that's fine and great, but that's not the surprise.

The surprise, y'all, is that the franchise isn't already in the city of Lubbock, but they have had and do have locations in the surrounding towns. For some reason, this member had already assumed that they were already in existence there just because they were in the other places. And all this time, I didn't even realize it.

So, here comes Allsup's into the Hub City, but with that comes a small twist. Take a look:

Wow, when I saw that, I assumed it would be going in someplace on 82nd St. or Milwaukee Ave., not there. Kind of a gamble, in my opinion.

From Lubbock in the Loop, a new Home2 Suites is expected to open next year, presumably on the northwest corner of Marsha Sharp Frwy and Ave. Q, right near downtown & the TTU campus. If it is the NW corner, the property was previously occupied by the recently demolished Inn of the South Plains (which is maybe the seventh to be bulldozed in the last five years). It sits on the main route to Tech coming from I-27 and the airport.

Default BREAKING: Toot'n Totum Coming To Lubbock

First, Circle K. Second, Allsups.

Now, folks, some more gas is coming to the Hub City. This time, it's a big Amarillo chain.

https://www.tootntotum.com/locations#section-458363

They're looking at Upland (at 82nd), Milwaukee, Slide (north and south), Hwy 87 (south side), Zenith (southeast), and Canyon West.

May the gas station wars begin.
