Default There's Been An Aquarium Sighting....

Finally, and it really is finally, the Lubbock Aquarium has a phase that is now open to the public. Just happened. It consists of an ocean playground, and it opens next to Adventure Park. That's just Phase I for right now, and the other trappings will follow later on.

They have a Facebook page where the info is, but finally, after much talk, there is action.

Have never met the people who compiled the info below, but it covers a lot of the topics discussed earlier in this topic:

https://online.flippingbook.com/view/670719409/

Mentions Home2 Suites at MSF & Ave. Q, the Park7 student housing close to Broadway & University, the Regents at 1212 grad student apartments downtown, and a number of others.

$2.3 billion in private sector construction last year (page 5) might stand out among the statistics.

Taco Villa had not seen a new location in Lubbock in at least a decade, as far as I know. Well, a new one is coming, and not surprisingly, it will be on the south side near the burgeoning Loop 88 corridor. This one will be on University at 132nd per Lubbock In The Loop.

This next is pretty significant. It's a new ag-tech facility which will go in off East Loop 289 at East Erskine. Plant Agricultural Systems is investing in 700 acres for a new tech-based approach on production and infrastructure. Oh, and that's just in phase one....

^Good catch, Case.

Announcement includes 900 new jobs and $670 million invested. Mayor Payne wrote “Boomtown” on Twitter, and I’d challenge anyone to disagree.

Some of the other recent new employment center announcements:

Leprino Foods: $1 billion, 600 jobs
Tropicale Foods: $66 million, 500 jobs
Dura Line fiber: $52 million, 141 jobs
New UMC hospital: $150 million, 250 jobs
X-FAB Semiconductors expansion: $200 million, 250 additional jobs

Missing some others, but you get the idea.

By Lubbock standards, I'd say they're doing quite nicely. It's only a matter of time before a major corporation decides that they want to relocate. There's a safe bet that one of them will come to Lubbock before very long.

We're just looking forward to two phases getting done at Covenant Park. They're getting an innovative approach to family entertainment, and pickleball is the new "big" thing. And let's not overlook a high percentage of homes in the metro area being built west of Milwaukee Avenue. It was stunning last year, and that will probably continue to be the case.
