I didn't realize a teenager could really have a strong opinion on the professionalism of French food. Chez Suzzette is now in a place at 50th and Quaker.

I agree with the ones stated above. I'd also add Hayashi (a Japanese place that is actually very legitimate from what a friend originally from California told me), Melt, and the Funky Door. If pizza can ever be considered upscale, West Crust Pizza would be in that vein (according to a recent Food magazine, it had the best pizza in Texas). I also don't think Abuelo's could really be considered upscale, but it's the closest thing Lubbock has to upscale Mexican, and it started there, so it could be considered local.
