Very good news.

(Unrelated, but the picture shows that the old Days Inn Fourth St. on the MSF near Jones Stadium is finally gone. Got interesting reviews on TripAdvisor and Yelp.)

Lubbock just needs now to make their freeway network more comprehensive by expanding through the east side along Parkway Drive and make Loop 289 six lanes all the way around. Marsha Sharp and West Loop 289 need for the whole stack to be finished. Several side streets are already getting upgrades. It's called planning ahead of the traffic.

Good report, though, about the overall commute. Savor this while you can, Lubbock.

With Loop 88 construction beginning, I doubt Loop 289 will ever have added lanes on the east and north side. Lubbock has done a great job planning for future traffic and I believe that will remain the case.
