Before my wife and I move to Idaho we are buying some property in rural Terry county outside city limits (north of Meadow) and there isn’t another building within ~6,000ft of our property. One of the things we want to do is put a small shooting range on the property. I know it varies by county in Texas but it is my understanding that most counties in Texas outside the city limits (especially west Texas) and not in a subdivision you can shoot on your property and are only responsible for the rounds that leave your property line.

Anyone here in Terry county outside city limits who can answer my question? I’m hoping someone here has contacted or is part of the sheriffs office that can help us out with the correct info. Already have the range setup picked out including very large berms so safety won’t be an issue.

We decided to not buy that house/property. Seller wasn't 100% forthcoming on a few key items that failed inspection. So our hunt continues. The thread can remain open just in case someone else has questions.

We have several other places to go look at, I really wish I could find some sort of better source of information on what is allowed in what county in Texas...
