Things seem to be reaching a fever pitch. At one point yesterday, they had five cranes working at the same time. The two fixed tower cranes were moving, plus a new 220-ton mobile crane was shifting things around on the field, then one was installing LED’s on the northeast light pole, and finally the last was improving communications infrastructure (for cell phones). I think they poured the last of the foundation slab concrete this morning.

Taken yesterday by Coach McGuire, you can see that the lead contractors have removed the mobile crane and a lot of other equipment, and that the turf crew has essentially taken over the field. The latter has spread rubber pellets to close to what would be the goal line (much more today than pictured). More concrete was poured on the second floor last night, in what looked like a hard-to-reach area.

The crew finished the turf installation on Tuesday, and the football team had its first in-stadium practice since last November, on Wednesday.

Looks like Tech has surpassed the $100 million fundraising goal set last year for this, and AD Hocutt said that they hope to have the new Double-T scoreboard up by the last home game, vs. UCF on 11/18.

Lots of other news today at the Red Raider Club Kickoff Luncheon, including how Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark credited President Lawrence Schovanec for his position. Also, Coach McGuire predicted that the team would get a victory at a place where he and Passing Game Coordinator & WR Coach Justin “Juice” Johnson once coached.

(Note: Because I’ve seen people on social media mention this, Tech knew from the outset that the stadium project wouldn’t be finished before the spring of 2024. They constructed temporary visitors’ locker rooms, and devised other plans for the inevitability of this situation. Many other programs have encountered similar challenges, such as an SEC member whose stadium has been in the news lately, an in-state current Big 12 school that will soon depart, and others. Tech itself has had ongoing renovations to the west side during the ‘01 & ‘02 seasons, and to the east side in ‘09.)
