I appreciate the suggestions for finding a rental house in Lubbock. I guess the secret to finding something nice may be luck. I've recently seen several houses that were listed with two different property management companies (two other companies never even called me back) but all the houses they've sent me to see have been awful. I know there's got to be something nice to rent here but right now I'm feeling very discouraged.

I'm sorry you've had such a rough time. I just recalled that when some family moved here recently, they had a similar problem. They actually ended up staying in an apartment until they found a house they wanted to buy. Real estate in Lubbock can be weird in that the mortgage payment on a house is often just as cheap as renting. I don't know if that's an option for you though. I guess that between Lubbock's accelerated growth and Tech's expansion, all of the good leases are being taken. I wish you the best.

Thanks for that. You're right, real estate prices here are a bargain, especially compared to the West Coast. Unfortunately buying isn't really an option until our house in Portland sells (hopefully soon). This is first "college town" I've lived in that didn't have faculty housing. I really had no idea it would be so difficult to find a nice house to rent in Lubbock.

In all honesty, I had no idea either. This must be a recent development.
