My wife and I are thinking about relocating to Lubbock, Texas. We noticed that only appox. 8-9% of the population is african-amercian. Could anyone comment on the level of racism in Lubbock?

Default funny

Well that is because the other 80% is hispanic. Lubbock is either a place you like or you really hate.
It is hotter than hades in the summer and cold in the winter. you get snow there. There are not many trees and it smells like an oil refinery.
Crime rate is kind of high. It is a poor town so the rate increases with the poverty level. Another choice might be Midland, it is a nice town. not that far way.

i dont believe that 80 percent of Lubbock is hispanic as one poster wrote here. from what i have researched it is primarily anglo/caucasian, with a small percentage of hispanics and even smaller percentage of african-americans

I just read the thread from the previous post Mr Football posted. I guess I am a little concerned about the "conservative" nature of the city. Does "convservative" amount to the attitude of african americans are "lower class" than whites?

Lubbock is not "whitey world".

There are all different races, cultures and nationalities represented Lubbock, especially with the universities and medical professions that bring in large amounts of diverse populations. All races are represented at each socio-economic level, though not equally. However, Lubbock has many very highly respected high ranking public officials, doctors, professors, lawyers, business executives, etc. that are Hispanic, African-American, and other races. Every town, unfortunately, has ignorant racists, but Lubbock's conservative values do not equate to racism. On the contrary, Lubbockites tend to be very welcoming to people of all races and nationalities.

Scholar, my labeling LBB as "Whitey World" does not equate it as being racist. please dont assume when i am making a general comment about the demographics of a city that it is making a comment about the existence or lack of racism. i do believe that LBB is predominantly caucasian, thats all.
