Currently living in Atlanta - So let's say if I have to work near Mercer University/MCCG (hospital) but would like to have the convenience to get to Atlanta for dining/shopping - perhaps 3-4 times a week.
What would be some thoughts on some "upscale" areas, slightly midway between the two? Unfortunately, I would have to be able to get to the hospital area in 30minutes if there's an emergency. Still deciding on this based on what options I might have. Living near the hospital puts me at over 1hr 30minutes with only driving; excluding with what I would have to do there and traffic to top off. Something like that might put me back to only 1x a week...
To be within 30 minutes of the hospital, your furthest north location would be Forsyth or so up to north Monroe County. That would be close enough to get to Atlanta maybe twice a week. More than that would be killer in my opinion. As far as upscale goes, the only option is north Macon in that 30 minute drive area. If you can be an hour away, that opens up Henry County to you.
Honestly, what your looking for would be difficult. If the 30 minute drive maximum is a must, then you will have to choose between upscale and proximity to Atlanta. If by upscale, you mean nice homes and businesses, etc, north Macon is the best choice. If more of a rural feel is okay, there are some very nice and very upscale neighborhoods (think horses, land, and very big nice homes) in north Monroe County that would put you closer to Atlanta.
