My husband and I are looking for some information on Milledgeville. Any advice would be helpful.

How are the schools? Is it a good area for young families? How are the medical facilities? Are there good housing options for starter homes?

We have visited the area once but really only saw the college so any information would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

There are basically three sides to M'ville. You have your ghetto, your generic college town and the lake country. Check great schools . org for info on the schools. If education is a priority look South to Jones County. Medical facilities are OK, but limited. You will have to travel an hour or two for specialists. Housing is a buyers market everywhere now as long as you can get financed.

Milledgeville is a nice place to live but you may want to stick to the north side area. The south side really isn't bad but all of the businesses and restaurants are on the north side. If you want specialty restaurants try going downtown.

We have a few private schools like John Milledge Academy and Georgia Military College and also an Christian school called Sinclair Baptist Church. The only hospital is Oconee Regional Medical Center which covers Hancock, Wilkinson, and Jones Counties. For starter homes I would look to a subdivision called Mills Trace which is near the main highway (441) in Milledgeville for nice affordable homes. You could also look at some homes on the lake, but they are probably alot more expensive. It's a great area to raise young children as there are 3 parks with playgrounds and a child friendly skating rink called the "Fun Factory." It's public schools are okay at best.
